This piece depicts the partnership between two seasonal deities in Celtic mythology - Brighde, who rules the summer months between Bealtaine & Samhain, and the Cailleach, who rules the winter months. St Brigid's Day is the day the Cailleach gathers her firewood for the rest of winter, and in some legends she can be seen on Brigid's Day in the form of a gigantic bird, carrying sticks in her beak.
