Brigid is Ireland’s patroness Saint, honoured this year with her own bank holiday. Brigid was originally a Celtic Goddess associated with arts & crafts, poetry, fertility, fire and healing. The oyster catcher birds (Giolla Brighde, meaning the ‘Servant of St. Brigid) on the sides of this artwork hid Brigid from a pursuing band of men by covering her with seaweed. The dandelion is the sacred flower of Brigid.
