'The DEAD'
Ushers Island, Dublin 8
2020
Dublin City Council
This Artwork is based on James Joyce’s The Dead, and the well-known closing passage of the short story. The piece was inspired by the ‘Dead House’, no. 15, Usher’s Island, said to be the site Joyce had in mind when writing the work. I created the piece to spark interest in the site and it’s significance. I based the drawing on some of the views across the quays from the house, as one of the scenes from the work. My use of colour and motifs were inspired by art deco, based on the period in which Joyce produced the work.
